As You Wiiiiish

I was recently in a doll swap in which we had to make a character from one of our partner's favorite movies, books, or tv shows.  Boy was I ever happy to find out that my partner's favorite movie of all time is The Princess Bride.  It is such a silly fun movie that I instantly knew I wanted to do a character from that movie.

The main protagonist is Westley,...he has the dreamiest blue eyes!

He also appears as the Dread Pirate Roberts!

I was going to stop there, but I felt like he was lonely.  After all what's a protagonist without his lady fair?
Soooooooo...I decided to also make his main squeeze, Buttercup.  Actually he insisted that life wouldn't be worth living without his..
TRUE LOVE!

Princess Buttercup may be smiling, but she was not very happy about meeting the Dread Pirate Roberts...

that is until she realized it was her sweet Westley come to rescue her!

And, in true Hollywood fashion, true love conquers all!

Crochet Jewelry

Okay, so even though I am not really a "girly girl", I have to admit that I love jewelry!  I tend to like pieces that are simple yet bold.  I found these lovely cuff and choker patterns and was inspired to make some crochet jewelry!  I was a bit apprehensive because I had never worked with thread weight yarn before, but I'm thrilled with the results.  I really want to buy some off-white and brown thread, and some brown, purple, and mauve ribbon to play around with!  I think I could make so many wonderful combinations with these colors along with the ones I already have!

Enough prattle, here are the pics... you may recognize this first one :)

NOW, I'm addicted to crochet thread!! I'm going to slowly work on acquiring every color available!

A Foray in Needlework

Today I have something new for you!  I have been wanting to venture into embroidery for quite a while now, but as I'm not one of those persons who simply goes out and buys everything I need at once, it usually takes me a while to compile all the tools needed for any new craft that I'm interested in.  Truth be told, finances are always tight in my household, so I have to gather crafting supplies little by little.  Anyway, point being,  I finally got around to doing some embroidery.  Okay, so its just some embellishing, but hey it counts!

These are some felt badges that I embellished with different embroidery stitches.  I forgot to include something in the picture for size reference before sending them off to their new homes, but they are 3 inches tall.  This is the very first embroidery that I've ever done.  The cupcake was my first one, and I learned back stitch, satin stitch , and whip stitch with that one.  The sugar skull was my second one, and I learned how to do a french knot and a daisy stitch.  I love how they turned out, and I look forward to making more of these little felt badges!

here are a couple of close ups...

I used some beads as sprinkles on the cupcake.

Mr. & Mrs. Scarecrow

Pumpkins make me happy!  I don't know if I love pumpkins because they remind me of autumn, or if I love autumn because of all the pumpkins.  Anyway, I've always loved scarecrows that have pumpkins for heads, so I decided to make a pair of scarecrow dolls.  My scarecrows are dressed a  little better than the typical scarecrow I think.  I used a pattern by June Gilbank (http://www.planetjune.com/blog/free-crochet-patterns/pumpkin/) to make the heads, but I messed it up and forgot to crochet in the back loops only.  Oops!  Oh well, I still like how they looked, so I decided to use them anyway.

They can sit on their own, but I had to prop them against my coffee cup to get them to stand for their portraits.  I think her head looks a bit more like an orange instead of a pumpkin, but I can't decide if it's because of the shape or because of the lighter orange yarn that I used for her head.  Well, I still like her either way!   And just because I love her stockings so much, here is a peak up her dress!

Tell me what you guys think!
Thanks!

Sneak Peek

Okay, so here is the sneak peak peek (hello!?) I promised.

Not one, but two autumn amigurumi in the works.  For those of you who don't know, amigurumi, as I understand it, is the Japanese description for crocheted and knitted dolls.  You will probably hear me use this word and doll often in my blog.  I guess I never really outgrew my love of dolls!  I know I'm not the only one though, so that makes it okay.  Right?  Anyway, I've been very excited about this project as autumn is my absolute favorite time of year, but I haven't been able to find a lot of time to work on them.  Time management is one of the things that I am constantly in need of working on.
Anyway, thanks for visiting me today!

Chibi Cthulhu

So I've been noticing a lot of fall related posts on other people's blog's lately.  I think I have officially caught fall fever!  Does anyone know if there is a difference between the term fall and autumn?  I love the word autumn.  It makes such a lovely name too.  Around here people generally just use the term fall, so I guess I use it too.  I think I'll start saying autumn instead. I don't know if it will stick though.

Anyway, so I've been having images of pumpkins and ravens and skeletons dancing around in my head.  I started a fall--oops, I mean autumn--related amigurumi.  Amigurumi are currently my favorite creative outlet.  I'm hoping to share that with you soon.  Maybe I'll post a teaser picture later this week.  For now, here is picture of another ami that I recently made.

Its a chibi Cthulhu, the character from H.P. Lovecraft's Call of Cthulhu, which I just started reading.  It's rather shameful, I know, that I haven't actually read it before.  I think the Davy Jones character from Disney's Pirate's of the Caribbean was based off this character.  Anyway, here he is...

I used this pattern from a blog called Amigurumi Love http://amigurumi-love.blogspot.com/2010/06/baby-chtulhu.html , but I did alter it a bit.

Mr. Fox

So, here we go!  I've decided to start a blog!  I'm not quite sure why, but I'm not quite sure that really matters.  I guess I just feel the need to start something new.  Something that I can keep track of and look back to when I'm wondering what I've been doing with my life.  I'm hoping that this will be an adventurous journey!

To start, I'm going to post an original amigurumi  that I designed (edit: I designed the pattern, not the character--just for the sake of clarification ).  This is Mr. Fox.  I made him for a swap group that I was in.  He is made of acrylic yarn, felt, and embroidery thread for the eyes.  I hope you guys like him.
